Ernest’s early life experiences of working on his family’s dairy and beef cattle operations in San Jacinto County set the foundation for his deep love of the land. Whether it was baling hay, running heavy equipment, breaking colts, or working cattle, he developed an appreciation of land conservation and stewardship.

After earning a degree in Animal Science from Texas A&M in 2004, he married, returned to Shepherd, bought a tract of land to develop into an Angus-based commercial cattle operation, and founded Repro Select. As an advanced reproductive services company for cattle and whitetail deer, Repro Select takes him to ranches throughout the Southcentral United States and Northern Mexico, giving him an intimate knowledge of very diverse regions.

In 2017, Ernest was elected to the Texas House of Representatives. He currently serves on the House Energy Resources Committee, which oversees the Texas Oil & Gas industry, and the Committee on Culture, Recreation & Tourism, the governing body of the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department.

Ernest, his wife Courtney, and their two sons are a family of avid outdoorsmen. They enjoy hunting, fishing, showing cattle, and shooting clays together. As a private pilot, Ernest understands that there is no substitute for being present. Whether on a golf course or at the lodge after a hunt, his ability to personally connect with people helps him bridge the gap from business to forming lifelong relationships.

His business savvy and broad understanding of finance and land ownership, as well as the state regulatory side of oil & gas policy, allow him to serve his clients’ diverse needs.
